temple monarc

A poster designed for instagram commissioned by local band, Temple Monarc. This poster had to be done pretty quickly and I was taking a while to figure out the direction I wanted to go with. I went with a different approach than I normally would and used a photo I had taken for the background. The photo chosen was one I had taken 3 years ago when I was living in Humboldt, CA. I found this photo (pictured) in my flickr photo dump and it was kind of a bad photo in my opinion. The part of the wave dying out and turning to foam was the best part of the photo and caught my eye. It was asking to be zoomed in and cropped for a background. It all sort of came together after I had set the background. To me, this poster screams “California”.
